At Mindfulness Craft, we talk a lot about why we think crafting is amazing for helping to improve everyone’s mental health. Our founder, Nimisha Patel, has championed this principle throughout her work within the corporate sector and now works to share this message wherever she can.
So, we thought there would be no better way to illustrate what makes crafting so amazing than to ask Nimisha exactly that question!
First, we asked Nimisha to tell us a little about how crafting can help us all be a little more mindful! She said:
“The reason that you craft is so that you can be creative and the space that you need to become creative is going to be when you are relaxed. So, what crafting allows you to do is to be creative and to feel a little bit present in the moment.
It allows you to not focus on what’s going on for you and not worry about the worries that you were thinking about, and it just hones you into what you are crafting at that moment.
For anxiety, you have got worries all the time. What crafting does is just put you in the moment so you don’t really worry about tomorrow or the anxiety that you might feel about the future, you are talking about right now.”
So, you’ve decided to take on a craft. Great! Now it’s time to decide which art project might suit you best. Nimisha told us:
“I like all of them but my favourite has to be the henna candle art and I will tell you why. It is because it is such a pleasure – the people that have attended, they have never used a henna cone before and it is completely something new. I love it as well. It is so easy to just relax and just to do anything.
Most of the crafts that we have are very very small and unique in terms of, they can package up, put away, they are tidy crafts, there’s no mess hardly. I tried to choose crafts that I could do whilst being a parent as well. So, they were easy for me to take out, put away, take out, put away.”
As we look forward to the summer months, many of the activities we all take on will change. And our workshops are no different! Nimisha and her team have some big plans this year:
“I think we are going to do similar crafts. But what we are going to do, is we are going to craft outside. So, we are going to take the crafts to parks or to local places to start getting some fresh air. We would encourage people to start thinking about craft parties in their garden instead of in their homes.
Start looking at outdoor venues where we could have nice round tables and you could have your drink and we could craft together – that is the kind of thing that we are going to try and encourage.”
At Mindfulness Craft, it is our number one priority to help you find some peace and quiet in quick, easy crafts. The opportunity to make something beautiful, and to have a chat with some amazing people, can really help bring you out of that slump!
